Return

I have just returned from spending very intense 3 days in Istambul working on the new pieces and changes of Verdeagua. I can really feel that many new ideas are starting and it is very challenging. It is also a bit scary and promising, and it really makes me feel alive and energized. Here is a very small bit of Istambul, its smells, its colors, and every thing that sorounds me is a source of inspiration. In the next posts I will start letting you see the new projects. Get ready.

Kids

Today is sunday and I have had time to relax and bit, and most of all to play with my kids. It is always great to focus on the little things they have in their room, such as boxes, baskets, theathers (hand made) and textile elephants. I could not resist to take a photo and show you. By the way, these are bussy days, I am leaving on wednesday and I have soooo many things to prepare.

Birds

My sister made this little birds for me a few weeks ago. They are simple and special and I am seriously considering making earings and a broche with them.

My hermana  dibujó estos pajaritos hace unas semanas.

Playing with kids

Today the sun was teasing my moroccan candle holders in the entrance. I can already feel a bit the warmth of the sun. We had some nice hot chocolate and I took a photo of the cups. And finally, we went for a great walk and my kis were playing with the water ponds. What a great eve we had. Little things like this are full of happiness.

Markets

I am so much into my trip next week for the new pieces. I wanted to share with you some photos of the markets where I find beads and treasures. Aren´t the colors amazing???? All is inspiring, I love it.

HOW TO DESCRIBE

Constanlty I am asked why I choose for my jewelry the name of VERDEAGUA. And I try to explain that is not just one explanation. Verdeagua is the color of the rain, of the fields of rice in Bali, of the jungle in South India, of the Mediterranean water in Menorca, a mixture of water and green, the color of nature. Elements I need to survive. It is a bit like describing what one feels when sees the feet of her child. It is very personal... but is just a miracle.

Steps

Many times I get asked how my inspiration arrives. It is not in a single way, it is a much complex process and not easy to describe. The above earings are from my last collection, and they are very special to me. The bunch of mixed wools are all over the place in the carpets makers of Istambul, and the photo of the woman hugging her chilid comes from a book called La Familia, under the umbrella project called MILK. Nepal has one of the most spectacular jewelry adonrments. They use coral and turquoise as the main stones in their pieces. Keep your eyes open, there is always beauty in the most unexpected place, and there is exactly where my inspiration arrives from.

My trip to Istambul is confirmed. So much to do.... These wooden shoes are used by the Muslims when they go to the Mosque for praying and wash their feet. I think they are wonderful. And a bit of no color for all the color that is waiting there.

I long for the spring. I close my eyes and feel the warm air and the smell of all the flowers. I have to be patience as it will come soon, but in the mean time I look at this necklace and it reminds me of spring.

Hand Made

The hand made pottery above comes from a friend of mine. He works with the most delicated colors and materials and his bowls, vases, glasses and plates are each a little treasure. Soon I will dedicate time on explaining his work. Colors always attract me wherever they are, and they travel in my mind to eventually take form into jewelry. I want my blog to also introduce other artist work and colaborations of people that are close to me and whom I value their views. The wonderful block printed textile is from Ethiopia. I dream about going there one day. So much to learn and discover there!

Textiles

One of my passions are textiles. Textiles with a story, with or with out colors, and of different textures. Cotton, linnens, wool... I find extraordinary the fact that a textile can communicate so much. I use them quite often in my jewelry. You will find that I constantly talk about textiles, and here is a first time. These are a bit of my collection from India, Peru, Turkey...

I found this book in New York. It got me the colorful cover and most of all the great ideas inside. My house is a bit like that, full of objects from different places in the world. The base is white and is sparkled by colorful details, textiles, carpets and baskets. It makes me feel comfortable and happy.

Pure Silk

The silks I use in my jewelry are 100% natural and coloured with natural pigments. They are soft and feel like the skin of a baby. These small flowers are also hand made by women in Anatolia, crochetted in the evenings when they meet for talks after the long day of hard work. I think it is great that we still have this beauty in a world of changing technology.
